The Ancient Romans mined deposits of travertine for building temples, aqueducts, monuments, bath complexes, and amphitheaters such as the Colosseum, the largest building in the world constructed mostly of travertine. Travertine is one of several natural stones that are used for paving patios and garden paths. It is sometimes known as travertine limestone or travertine marble; these are the same stone, although travertine is classified properly as a type of limestone, not marble. The stone is characterised by naturally occurring pitted holes and troughs in its surface.

Granite is an igneous stone formed from liquid magma that is hardened over thousands of years under extreme pressure deep beneath the earth’s surface. From ancient times to recent years, granite has been used for structural building to kitchen bench tops due to it’s durability and hard wearing properties making it an excellent choice for outdoor paving and cladding. Granite is available in a variety of colours and textures and can be shaped and cut to any size. Granite is a beautiful and dense premium stone making it an ideal choice for both residential and commercial projects whether the design is contemporary or traditional.

Granite has all the good quality, hard wearing characteristics that are associated with stone. Its colours make it adaptable to integrate into existing or new landscaping plans. It is usually flamed or exfoliated which gives it a gentle sparkle under sunlight. This finish provides a non-slip surface for safety but is by no means harsh. Like travertine, it also stands up very well in salt water and ocean side environments.

Black Granite

Sandstone is a sedimentary stone formed in the layers of sand buried beneath the earth. Once it has accumulated, sandstone forms when the sand is compacted by the pressure of overlying deposits and cemented by the precipitation of minerals within the pore spaces between the sand grains. It is within this process that leaf, plant and in some cases animal fossils form on the surface of split sandstone pavers. Sandstone is available in a variety of colours, sizes and textures. Its character and timeless look make it one of the most popular selections for outdoor and indoor use.

• Wide range of finishes & shapes available

Basalt is an igneous stone formed from the liquid magma that has flowed onto the earth’s surface following a volcanic eruption. Due to the grey and blue tones of the stone, basalt is commonly referred to as “Bluestone”. In Victoria, due to its durable and hard wearing properties, Bluestone has been the product of choice for footpaths, curbs and driveways in the Melbourne CBD since the 1800’s.  Bluestone is available in a range of shapes, sizes and finishes and due to its high density and neutral colour it is the perfect choice for both residential and commercial projects.

Bluestone steppers are random in shape and are available in several sizes. The surface of these stepstones are sawn and edges are randomly rounded which creates a rustic look for crazy paving or as natural stepping stones for pathways, under pots or as a feature in any garden.

• Dense & very durable
• Less porous than other stone
• Available in paving, tiles, bullnoses & crazy pave

Limestone is a very popular paving product as it is hard, durable and less porous than other products in the market, making it less susceptible to staining. Natural limestone has been millions of years in the making and nature has created this versatile and durable stone with character which cannot be offered by stereotyped and mass produced products. The minor variations in the appearance of the face of each paver adds aesthetic appeal to many aspects of home building and improvements.

• Wide range of colours & finishes available
• Easy to maintain
• Dense & very durable

Slate is a very dense fine-grained sedimentary stone with similar properties to limestone and forms from shale-type rock composed of clay and volcanic ash. The result is a foliated, layered stone with a natural appearance that is frequently light and dark grey in colour with variations of purple, green, cyan and brown. Due to it’s low tendency to absorb water, slate is easy to maintain with or without the application of a sealer making it a good choice for all high use areas both indoor or outdoor.
